Mammoth Coloring Pages

Mammoths appeared 5 million years ago and became extinct around 2000 BC. In addition to being covered in hair, another feature of mammoths was their exaggeratedly curved teeth. These teeth facilitated their ability to push through snow and find hidden vegetation so that they could find food during the cold ice ages. The extinction of the mammoths was not due to a colder climate, but to a warmer one. With the end of the ice age, mammoths had less food to eat and they had to continue their migration north, leaving them with fewer areas to move around. More than 80 percent of the mammoth remains found so far are located in the permafrost zone of Siberia. Here are some free printable mammoth coloring pages.
